Asset Recovery Services
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that Americans alone will retire more than 200 million personal computers in the coming year. The reality is that any company that owns or leases IT equipment has to plan for asset recovery — the management, recovery, ordisposal of idle assets — which inevitably takes place at some point in the lifecycle of any piece of IT equipment.
Due to federal government regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, companies with confidential information on company-owned or leased hard drives are required to ensure proper data erasure. Data erasure must also be compliant to standards such as DOD 5220.22M. Asset Recovery Services
Created to help you manage, recover, or dispose of idle assets properly, Asset Recovery Services is a portfolio of cost-effective, turnkey solutions that you can pick and choose to manage the whole or selected parts of the asset recovery process, as needed. The DecisionOne asset recovery process starts with an internal and external inventory of your, or your clients’, assets. After the inventory assessment is complete, assets are identified for upgrades, refresh, disposal, employee purchase, or revenue sharing. DecisionOne will make arrangements to pick-up all equipment at the customer's location(s), and at the customer's request, DecisionOne field engineers will perform onsite sanitization of hard drives for removal of confidential information.
After assets are received at DecisionOne's disposition center, they are categorized based on remaining life, then either retired from service or refreshed and placed into an inventory pool until redeployed at the customer's request. After DecisionOne tests and evaluates all equipment, data is destroyed according to U.S. Department of Defense guidelines to ensure compliance with federal privacy laws.
Good equipment is cosmetically cleaned, then sorted based on equipment status, disposal of good equipment is handled through the remarket programs, and equipment deemed unusable is handled through the scrap program. Once the disposition service is complete, DecisionOne provides the customer with detailed reporting by serial number and an EPA-approved Certificate of Destruction for every item that has been disposed.
